Sentosa, which means “peace and tranquility” in Malay, is an island only 800 meters off the southern coast of Singapore. The island served as a British military base during World War II, but later was developed into a tourist complex in the 1970s after control was restored to the government of Singapore. Sentosa is fully equipped with recreational facilities and is famous for its beautiful beaches, making it a must-visit attraction for tourists to Singapore. In 2018, the island was selected as the site for the first-ever US-North Korea Summit, attracting worldwide attention.

The southern coast of Sentosa is divided into three beaches: Siloso Beach, Palawan Beach, and Tanjong Beach. Westernmost Siloso Beach is the perfect place to enjoy water sports such as beach volleyball, kayaking and surfing. Cafes, restaurants, and pubs can also be found lined up along the white sand, making Siloso a great place for some R&R. Meanwhile, Palawan Beach in the center of the southern coast is a quiet, secluded, and leisurely haven. It’s known as the best spot to watch the fantastic sunset, taking in the views of the sky, sea, and palm trees.

In addition, Sentosa Island is home to various theme parks such as Universal Studios, which offers 28 rides in seven different themed zones. It’s also an excellent destination for travelers who want to feel the extreme thrills of experiences such as bungee jumping, zip lining, and sky swings.

Travel Tip

If you cross the suspension bridge in the middle of Palawan Beach, you can reach the southernmost point of continental Asia. The observation deck at the end of the bridge is a beautiful place to form lasting memories as you look out to the sea.
