Lengthy self-guided tours are gaining popularity as they offer the opportunity to escape the monotony of everyday life, stay in an unfamiliar place, enjoy a break, and have new experiences. In particular, the number of people taking month-long stays in cities abroad is rapidly increasing. In 2019, Thailand’s capital Bangkok ranked first on popular tourist sites dedicated to such new trends.

Bangkok has been the most visited city of the year for several years in a row, boasting royal palaces and temples that are ideal attractions for tourists. This includes Wat Phra Kaew, located within the royal palace and icknamed “the Temple of the Emerald Buddha” for the famous statue housed within. Right next to the palace stands Wat Pho, Bangkok’s oldest temple, known also as “Nirvana Temple.” Meanwhile, Wat Arun, across from Wat Pho, is one of the city’s most beautiful temples. It is particularly breathtaking at night, illuminated in various colors that provide a mystical, magical feeling. And of course, we must mention Khaosan Road, which brightens up each Bangkok night. This mecca for backpackers is always bustling with tourists enjoying food, shopping, and looking for accommodations.

Other destinations in the city offer a distinctly sentimental feeling. These include Bang Kachao, a central park known as Bangkok’s “Green Lung” which is famous for its beautiful ponds and green grass, and Sri Nakhon Khuean Khan Park, which is packed with a variety of tropical trees. Take a leisurely break in either of these locations while walking along the quiet roads that snake through the green trees.

Travel Tip

Bang Kachao Island is the perfect place for a bicycle tour, with its many bike paths and rentals available right at the docks. Enjoy a ride through thick tropical forests that will remind you of a jungle.
