In ASEAN countries, rice is used as main ingredient for many dishes. Rice noodles and spring rolls are also made from rice. Rice noodles, one of Viet Nam’s most popular ingredients, originated in the 19th century, when factory workers ate noodles in meat broth after finishing work.

In the early 2000s, rice noodles became widely popular in Korea. “Well-being”was the nationwide buzzword, which led to a rice noodle fever. Koreans fell in love with rice noodles low-calorie content and light taste, and now it is easy to find restaurants offering rice noodle dishes virtually everywhere.

Many dishes are prepared with rice noodles. Bun cha, a dish from northern Viet Nam, is slightly different from the better-known pho. It contains rice noodles, fresh vegetables, and grilled marinated meat dipped in nuoc mam sauce.
