Return to Nostalgia (2015)

Newly debuting director Woo Ming Jin, captured his journey to uncover the roots of a long-lost film native to his homeland, Seruan Merdeka (1947). Seruan Merdeka was the first post-World War II film made in the Federation of Malaya, while also being the first film in the history of Malaysian cinema to feature a multiethnic cast, including both ethnic Malays and Chinese. As the production team sought traces of the film on Malay Peninsula and Singapore, they met with locals of diverse ethnic groups and classes in an effort to revive memories of the past. Through gathering testimonies of the locals and conducting countless interviews, they intimately explore the history of Malaysia.
