The Customs of Cambodia

Book of the Month
The Customs of Cambodia

Written by Zhou Daguan, translated by Choi Byeong-uk
The Customs of Cambodia is a travelogue written by Zhou Daguan, an official of the Yuan Dynasty during the13th century who was dispatched as an envoy to the Khmer Empire between 1296 and 1297.

The book introduces Khmer culture and the court of King Indravarman III (r. 1295-1308) through the eyes of an outsider.

As the inions on the walls and columns of its many temples represent the only remaining records from the Khmer empire, The Customs of Cambodia is an invaluable resource and a must-read for anyone interested in Khmer history and ancient culture.
