Memories shared by ASEAN-Korea Futurist

Letters from AKF
Memories shared by ASEAN-Korea Futurist

HTET PAING OO

I came from Myanmar to Korea to study in Busan. I wanted to make friends outside of school with people with shared interests, so I was happy to learn that the ASEAN Culture House was recruiting people for the AKF program, which I gladly joined.

On the first day of the program, I was a little nervous about meeting people from various ASEAN countries as well as Korea, but after meeting everyone and getting to know them, my apprehension soon disappeared. As we engaged in shared activities, I felt that while we may be from different schools and of different age and gender, I was not that different from them.

While taking on the role of a facilitator, I obtained knowledge on the histories and cultures of ASEAN countries, and it was fascinating to meet people from there. Although all events were meaningful, I had a particularly fun time during “Welcome, First Time in ASEAN?” and the “ASEAN Cooking Class.”

These days, I continue my studies in Korea but often think back of the time with the other ASEAN-Korea Futurist. I still hang out with my close friends from that time, and thanks to them, I enjoy my time here more than before. I hope I can create more beautiful memories at the ASEAN Culture House in the future.

ASEAN-Korea Futurist ( AKF ) is an international exchange program for young people, aimed at establishing a network of ASEAN international students and Korean youths and providing opportunities for cultural exchange. Since the opening of the ASEAN Culture House, a total of 117 people have participated in AKF with the goal of improving their understanding of ASEAN countries through tasks including quizzes on ASEAN countries, ASEAN wedding performances, and cooking classes.
