A turning point in my study-abroad experience: 4th AKF Group

Letters from AKF

A turning point in my study-abroad experience: 4th AKF Group

By Luong Thi Huyen, Member of the “AKus” Team (4th AKF)

Greetings! My name is Luong Thi Huyen. I am from Viet Nam and a student of the Department of International Trade & Commerce at Kyungsung University. I heard about the ASEAN Culture House’s AKF program from a friend. I am now a member of the “AKus” Team and having fun sharing and learning about ASEAN culture with my team members.

The friend who first told me about the AKF explained that it was a program where foreign and Korean students work together on various “missions” (objective-based games) and volunteer activities (Easy Access ASEAN Lecture Series, Cooking Class, etc.). This year’s activities were limited, largely because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but not without some benefits. The YouTube live broadcast mission, “My Little ASEAN,” was a unique experience of media in the contactless era (which also was, of course, very fun). I was able to quickly get to know my teammates through the process of sharing ideas and would like to take this opportunity to thank them for all of their hard work.

Being involved with the AKF program was helpful in many ways. While putting together and conducting an actual YouTube live broadcast, I learned a lot about how to film and edit videos. I also learned what it means to respect other peoples’ opinions and work with others as a true team by helping one another, especially with difficult tasks.

The five months I spent in the AKF program were a turning point in my life in Korea. I want the COVID-19 pandemic to end so that I can participate in other ACH programs with my new friends. I can’t wait to see the activities of the 5th AKF group!

ASEAN-Korea Futurist ( AKF ) is an international exchange program for young people, aimed at establishing a network of ASEAN international students and Korean youths and providing opportunities for cultural exchange. Since the opening of the ASEAN Cultural House, a total of 117 people have participated in AKF with the goal of improving their understanding of ASEAN countries through tasks including quizzes on ASEAN countries, ASEAN wedding performances, and cooking classes.
