This film tells the story of 10 schoolchildren and their teachers as they struggle with economic hardships on the Indonesian island Belitung. Once affluent, the island’s land hardship when a factory shut down. For the children on this impoverished island, studying is a luxury. But together with their teachers who have dedicated their life to education, the children can dream of a future as beautiful as a rainbow in spite of their poor surroundings. This film, based on the novel of the same title written by Andrea Hirata, broke box office records in Indonesia when it was first released. The Rainbow Troops was introduced to Korean audiences at the 2009 Busan International Film Festival and the 2013 Indonesian Film Festival.
