“Diamond Island” depicts the complex realities of aspiring young people living in a rapidly changing world. Young workers flock to the Phnom Penh, Cambodia to find employment within the rapidly transforming city. 18-year old Bora arrives from the Cambodian countryside to start a construction job at the Diamond Island luxury housing development. As he forges new friendships and courts a young woman, things take an unexpected turn when he runs into his long-lost older brother. Director Davy Chou naturally portrays the lives of youth caught between the inevitable changes of the times, while reminding us that happiness is always right in front of us. In 2014, the film was selected at the Busan International Film Festival’s Asian Project Market, before going on to earn a screening in the International Critics’ Week section at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.
