This film charts the life story of the protagonist, Rita, spanning her childhood years into adulthood. The director repeats a series of moments throughout the film that show Rita singing, dancing and playing. It artistically depicts her inviting friends to her birthday party under the guise of asking about homework, lying next to her mother as she listens to an intriguing story on the radio, and other mundane yet captivating scenes. The unique method of the filming itself is noteworthy as it gracefully maneuvers back and forth between black and white and widescreen frames, capturing a panoramic view of her youth as if watching an old home video. The film was praised for demonstrating the cinematic growth of the director and received an invitation to the Directors’ Fortnight at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival.
