ASEAN-ROK Gourmet Banquet: Food Culture Film Screenings

ASEAN-ROK Gourmet Banquet: Food Culture Film Screenings

“ASEAN-ROK Gourmet Banquet,” a series of film screenings on culinary culture that was held at the auditorium of the ASEAN Culture House from January through February, was a resounding success, with a total of 588 visitors. The screenings, which were built around four themes (Hororok, Chopchop, Omulomul, ASEAN-ROK Dinner Table), featured 10 movies on the food culture of Korea as well as ASEAN and wider Asian countries. Movies put a spotlight on noodle dishes, an essential part of ASEAN culinary culture; how people of Korea and the ASEAN region bond over food; and the stories of those who find happiness and unexpected similarities with one another through the sharing of food. There was also a director’s talk-style event, titled “Food Culture Story in Film,” held with experts from various fields. Screenwriter and food expert Chang Min-young, Producer Lee Wook-jung, and Barista Jeon Ju-yeon shared invaluable insights with the audience on particular dishes and the people who prepare them. We hope that the film screenings provided viewers with an opportunity to experience ASEAN’s rich culinary culture through movies in lieu of actually traveling to this region. Please note: This event was carried out safely with strict adherence to COVID-19 quarantine regulations (e.g. adequately-distanced seating).
