Opening Ceremony of the Special Exhibition “Colors of Asia, Revisited – The Case of ASEAN and Korea”

On July 11, the ASEAN Culture House held the opening ceremony of “Colors of Asia, Revisited - The Case of ASEAN and Korea,” a special exhibition celebrating the first anniversary of the ASEAN Culture House. The exhibition was realized in collaboration with the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, the Philippine National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the Embassy of the Philippines in Seoul and the ROK Embassy in Manila. The exhibits represent a contemporary reinterpretation of textiles and traditional wedding outfits from the ten ASEAN member countries and Korea. Philippine designer Renee Salud and Korean designer Jean Yoon Lee, who had joined the opening ceremony as special guests, introduced some of their creations during a walk through the exhibition. They were joined by the Philippine Ambassador to South Korea, H.E. Mr. Raul S. Hernandez, the Korea Foundation’s Executive Vice President, Mr. Seong-in Kim, and other guests. The costumes and accessories on display offer visitors the chance to gain a deeper understanding of the similarities and differences between Korea and the ASEAN countries and to recognize contemporary and modern aspects of ASEAN culture, which is of ten presented primarily from a traditional perspective.
