The Lady and the Peacock: The Life of Aung San Suu Kyi

The Lady and the Peacock: The Life of Aung SanSuu Kyi

· Author: Peter Popham ·Translated by Seung-woo Shim

· Publisher: King’s Library (January 2013)

Aung San Suu Kyi is a pivotal figure in Myanmar's democratization movement. This book captures the story of Aung San Suu Kyi as vividly as a live documentary, graphically depicting her devotion to the democratization of her homeland. The lively yet personal depiction of these formative events is perhaps the book’s most powerful asset. The author of the book, Peter Popham, spent five years living in Myanmar as he researched the historical background, holding up-close, private interviews with Aung San Suu Kyi herself, as well as her family and friends. These efforts succeeded in shining light on the secrets to her political successes, her very real struggles as a human being, in addition to her keen insight and sense of humor, and not least her love for her family and her humble dreams.
