Easy Access Malaysia

During the second and fourth week of July, the ASEAN Culture House hosted the “Easy Access Malaysia” program, the fifth instalment of its “Easy Access ASEAN” series, which runs from March through December 2018 to enhance the understanding of ASEAN countries’ culture, history and society. On July 12 and 26, respectively, Professor Hyung-jong Kim (Yonsei University) and Professor Seok-joon Hong (Mokpo National University) held special lectures that provided an in-depth look into Malaysian culture and society. As part of the increasingly popular “Easy Access ASEAN” series, this month’s program also featured classes to learn how to prepare the traditional Malaysian desserts onde-onde and air bandung and a rare opportunity to experience batik-making, a traditional method of textile-dyeing. Finally, the ASEAN Culture House screened the film Ola Bola, which tells the story of the success of the multicultural Malaysian national soccer team during the 1980 MOSCOW Summer Olympics. The screening rekindled the passion during last month’s World Cup.
