This month, we’es introducing another Korean movie that has been popularly remade in ASEAN. Sunny is about a middle-aged heroine looking for her best friends from her high school days 25 years earlier. The women are living their own various lives and when they come together again, they share memories of their high school years. The film was well-received by ASEAN audiences for universal elements that transcend borders and cultural differences, including the historical background of the era, school friends, changing appearances, and unabated friendship. Sunny was remade in Viet Nam as Splendid Days (Tháng năm rực rỡ) and in Indonesia as Free (Bebas). A Japanese remake was also produced, as was a Hong Kong television series version of the story.
