2019-2020 ACH New Acquisitions
 
ASEAN Culture House exhibits several new pieces of artwork donated by ASEAN member States in the Permanent Exhibition Gallery. Come take in these exhibits and experience the beauty of ASEAN art and culture.
Puppets
Marionette dolls tied to
strings are used in Myanmar’s
traditional performances
Royal Page Boy

Lord Buddha Image and Worship Set
Statue of the Buddha representing holiness, spiritual peace, sacred protection, and good fortune
Ball of Holy Thread
Used to pray for a blessing for a family or individual as well as to connect monks with statues of the Buddha during religious events
Tung (Traditional Lanna Banner)
Traditional Lanna-style fabric banner used during religious rituals or festivals held in the northern provinces of Thailand
Kong and Mallet
Kong, a metal instrument used to play traditional Thai music
 
Kathin Ceremony Set
A small tree made out of wooden sticks which are used before the kathin ceremony to request donations for Buddhist temples in Thailand
Palm Leaf Fish Mobile
(Pla Tapian)
People in the central region of Thailand weave banana or palm leaves into mobiles in the shape of fish (Pla Tapian) to wish for blessings and health for a baby.
Monk’s Robe on Tray
A saffron colored monk’s robe on a tray, as carried by men entering the Thai Buddhist monkhood during a Buddhist initiation ceremony
Maroon Cloth
Maroon colored monk’s robes are among the rewards offered to people who participate in Buddhist initiation ceremonies
 
Krathong
A basket made with banana leaves and filled with flowers, a candle, and incense sticks, which is released to float on the river during the Loi Krathong festival.
Songkran Set
During the Songkran (Thai New Year) festival, water sprinkled with traditional incense and flower petals is poured over statues of the Buddha to wash away dust as a sign for
a good new year.
Miniature Phi Ta Khon Masks
During the Phi Ta Khon festival, people wear colorful costumes and masks made of old bamboo baskets originally used for steaming sticky rice.
