Written by the creative artist Mohamed Yusof Ismail, who is more commonly known by the name Yusof Gajah, this book portrays a simple and primordial world that reflects Malaysia's climate and environment. The titular character, Cantik, is a bird with beautiful plumage whose dream is to travel beyond the nearby hill. Cantik flies to the city in search of his dream, leaving his friends behind. However, the city proved to be a place where Cantik could not survive. Through the story of Cantik, who is trying to find his way back to the forest, the book teaches young readers the value of our natural world. Gajah, who was born and raised in Malaysia and is currently an activist fighting for the protection of elephants, shows his love of the environment through this beautifully-illustrated book.
