The Lady is the story of Aung San Suu Kyi, the “Mother of Myanmar.” The film shares Aung San Suu Kyi’s life as she returns to Myanmar from the United Kingdom to reunite with her critically ill mother. Upon her discovery of Myanmar’s suffering under the rule of a dictatorship, she makes numerous efforts to establish democracy in the country. Through her actions and unwavering heart, which stays strong even in the face of her husband’s death, viewers witness the course of Myanmar’s strong passion for peace and freedom. From her winning of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991 to her rise as the leader of Myanmar through the 2015 elections, the film vividly introduces viewers to Aung San Suu Kyi and her role in ending military rule in Myanmar.
