A novelist, doctor, poet, and independence activist Jose Rizal is often called “he hero of the Philippines,”a figure renowned for his beautiful poems. The Poems of José Rizal is a collection of 29 poems in seven parts, including representative works such as “A la juventud filipina”(“To The Philippine Youth”) and “Mi último adiós”(“My Last Farewell”). Excerpts from Rizal’s novels Touch Me Not and The Reign of Greed are also included in this volume in the form of verse to help readers understand why the author turned away from poetry to embrace prose. In the appendix, a brief history of Rizal’s life and art gives readers a glimpse of Philippine literature and history.
