Good Morning Luang Prabang

Movie of the Month
Good Morning Luang Prabang

Director: Sakchai Deenan, Anusorn Sirisakda
Laos, Thailand / Running Time: 1 hour and 30 minutes
Good morning Luang Prabang was released in 2008, upon which it immediately gained immense popularity in Laos. Though the title’s name is based on the famous UNESCO World Heritage Site, most of the movie was filmed in Pakse, making it the perfect encapsulation of Laotian culture. The first sequence begins at Wattay International Airport in Vientiane and is followed by shots of the Champasak Hotel, which was previously a palace, the Pha Suam Waterfall, and other major tourist attractions. There is neither a villain nor an overarching issue throughout the movie, but this does not prevent the movie from subtlety but surely resonating with viewers. It is a truly unique movie that does not follow the conventional focus on stimulating the audience.

Viewers who wish to learn more about Laos are given an incredible opportunity to observe the beautiful daily lives of the Laotian people, while those who have been to Laos can reminisce about their time in the country. This romantic and beautifully-made movie is now available on YouTube.
