This year, we were fortunate to celebrate the opening of the ASEAN Culture House on September 1, the 50th anniversary of ASEAN on August 8, and all year round the ASEAN-ROK Cultural Exchange Year. With this in mind, the inaugural Special Exhibition at the ACH is currently on display to further promote the positive relationship between Korea and ASEAN in the hope that it may long continue. The exhibition, whose theme circles around wedding traditions and the universal value of the institution of marriage, provides an opportunity to reflect on the culturally and anthropologically distinct characteristics of wedding ceremonies and marriage customs and the meaning attached to them in each of the respective countries. Through an artistic approach to the records of individuals and groups surrounding marriages, historical artifacts, and life stories, you will not only discover those distinct moments of wedding ceremonies but also the wonderful moments of the shared lives of married couples that develop thereafter. The exhibition provides a valuable opportunity to look at wedding traditions and marriage cultures from the 10 ASEAN Member States and Korea all in one place.
